Vertical Farming: The Demand is Rising According to an extensive projection research project, the population of America is expected to increase to approximately 438 million citizens by the year 2050 (Passel). This is a sharp increase in today’s population of roughly 315 million. If this projection is accurate, it looks like our nation is at a high risk of overpopulation. Imagine living in a town where you can’t drink tap water without the risk of contracting numerous illnesses from it. Where the only food that hasn’t been put through countless forms of processing is far beyond your budget. Where going outside isn’t refreshing because the place you live in is so crowded you feel like you’re going to suffocate. This is just a taste of what overpopulation looks like. However, there is a huge step we can take to prevent dangerously crowded cities. We have a lot of land that is being used for farming, and this farmland could be renovated into citi es. Vertical farming could be the key improvement to our country’s rise in population.
